she revealed that a few weeks ago she received the news of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Describing the experience of receiving this diagnosis, she compared it to being in a room scarier than American Horror Story.In 2003, she received the heartbreaking news of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. From that moment, her difficult journey began. She endured numerous painful surgeries and underwent nine months of chemotherapy. However, she chose to keep her battle a secret, confiding only in PEOPLE magazine.“I didn’t tell anybody. I continued to work right after the operation, doing Little Black Book with Brittany Murphy. My agent at the time was very old-school and didn’t want me to be the poster child for ovarian cancer. I didn’t want anyone to know, but it really took a lot out of me.”Despite her determination, she managed to conquer the situation and become cancer-free until the moment her doctor informed her that she had relapsed. The news left her questioning if she would have to endure the same painful journey of suffering once more.Upon discovering she had breast cancer, she wasn’t shocked since she mentioned, “breast cancer is common in my family.” She decided to undergo a double mastectomy to stop it from spreading.She made a choice to transform her tragedy into motivation for other women. Despite everything, this courageous woman didn’t lose her lively character. On one occasion, she even made a joke, saying, “I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law,” and expressed gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support during her difficult moments.She did her best to replace the plate of sour green tomatoes her life served her with one of Fried Green Tomatoes instead, and we are lucky she did it. Kathy Bates is currently free from cancer, but she has lymphedema, a non-curable condition that affects about 30 percent of breast cancer survivors. This condition is caused by the removal of her lymph nodes. Regrettably, she is dealing with discomfort due to pain and swelling.“It’s a souvenir you definitely don’t want. I really felt that life was over for me. I probably wouldn’t work again, and I was angry for a long time.”Bates decided to share her story openly, hoping to encourage other women to undergo regular check-ups and realize they are not alone in their fight.
